Cave description
Doboş Cave is ideal for beginners in caving. Accessible even to families with children, the cave abounds in stalactites and stalagmites, one more beautiful than the other.
The cave is located in a sinkhole (funnel-shaped karst formation) on the Runcuri karst plateau in Roșia commune, Bihor county, a plateau known for its special picturesque landscape.
The entrance to the cave opens at the base of a steep limestone wall, at the base of this large sinkhole. After a short crawl at the entrance in the cave, there is a series of beautiful rooms and galleries, partially crossed by an underground stream.
Doboş Cave is a cave that occasionally houses 2 species of bats, both protected worldwide due to their importance to the ecosystem.
“A unique cave. I would say that it is the second dearest to me, after Ciur Ponor, my soul cave. Small but interesting. Pure, beautiful, full of formations so diverse that man’s imagination has not yet found a name for them. It is a school cave, a mandatory place for the training of true cavers “. (Gheorghe Brijan, “Speodava Caving Club”, Ştei)
