Discover the prehistoric depths of the Pădurea Craiului Mountains! The only cave in Romania where anyone can admire calcite crystals without being a caver.
Location: Roşia commune; GPS coordinates: 46º49’02,06 ” N, 22º25’26,08 ” E
Tourist trail length: 700 meters
Access: The Farcu Cave is situated in the upper basin of the Roşia Valley, Roşia village, Bihor County. Once in a mining area, the Farcu Hill is a karst plateau with numerous large sinkholes and partly covered lapies. The access to the area is made on the recently modernized public road that starts from the center of the commune towards the village called Poniţa.
The Crystal Cave from Farcu Mine comprises two important tourist components: the mine gallery along with a museum hall dedicated to mining, with exhibits used in everyday miners’ work: machinery, lamps, tools and the cave itself.
After a trip to the mining museum, tourists will be able to look into the depths of a subterranean pithole, arranged to provide a spectacular view of the bottom of the earth. The tour continues to the cave itself, which, although small, is richly adorned with crystals of various shapes. This place is the only one in Romania, where tourists who do not have caving training can admire the brilliant world of delicate calcite crystals. Those who have arrived here agree that their beauty is breathtaking.
