A living testimony of the ingenuity of the folk craftsmen, the water mill located on the edge of Roşia commune is the last one left in operation, from a chain of mills that ground grain for the inhabitants of the villages located on the Roșia valley.
Built at the end of the 19th century, the Roșia mill is more than a hundred years old. The building houses two rooms, the mill itself and the miller’s room, an austere enclosure that now serves as the owner’s home.
At the entrance, in the hall, there is an old earth oven, in turn a reminder of a forgotten way of life.
The mill wheel is itself a landmark for tourists passionate about photography. It is built of wood and driven by directing the flow of the Roșia creek through a gutter.
The owner, Gheorghe Burtic, is a virtuoso of the trumpet violin, a musical instrument specific to Bihor County. For a small donation of money, the old miller is always ready to sing to the tourists.
The old mill is located at the exit of the T3 cycle route, “Pădurea Craiului, all-inclusive“.
